#TCCBasketball: Eagle women open Shootout with win over FSCJ

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (December 1, 2016) – Five players scored in double-figures for NJCAA Region 8 No. 3 Tallahassee Community College in an 87-60 win over Florida State College at Jacksonville on day one of the Florida College's Women's Basketball Shootout. 

The event, hosted by the Panhandle Conference, is being played at Tallahassee Community College and Chipola College. 

Tallahassee has won six straight games to improve to 9-1. Florida State College is now 3-3 on the season. 

The Eagles led just 45-35 at the midway point of the third quarter but rattled off seven unanswered points to ignite a 14-2 run. Tallahassee's lead reached as many as 29 in the final minute, as the Eagles outscored the Blue Wave in the second half, 50-37. 

Despite playing with only seven players, Florida State College hung close for much of the game. Tallahassee led only 21-13 after one quarter and 37-23 at the half. 

The Blue Wave outscored Tallahassee 12-8 through the first five minutes of the third quarter to pull within ten points. 

Florida State College outshot Tallahassee on Thursday, knocking down 45.8 percent (22-of-48) of its field goal attempts, compared to just 44.2 percent (34-of-77) for the host Eagles. However, the Eagles won the battle on the boards (41-35) and forced 29 turnovers, which they converted into 43 points. 

Japonica James led the quintet of double-figure scorers with 16. Jas Hill and Lawriell Wilson had 14 points each. Aryn Tarver and Janessa Murphy scored 10 points apiece. 

Yolizma Cupidan led all players with 26 points. 

Tallahassee will play its second game of the Shootout at 6 p.m. Saturday against Santa Fe College. 

Florida State College will tip off day two action at 1 p.m. Friday against Pensacola State College. Games are also scheduled for 3 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
