#TCCBasketball: Eagle women win big over Santa Fe

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (December 3, 2016) – Tallahassee Community College snapped a three-game losing streak to Santa Fe College on Saturday evening, knocking off the Saints, 87-52, in the final game of the Florida College's Women's Basketball Shootout.

Tallahassee, ranked third in the Region 8 Women's Basketball Coaches' Poll, has won seven straight games since losing to the eighth-ranked Saints on November 15 to improve to 10-1. Santa Fe has dropped four of five since its win over Tallahassee and is now 4-6.

Saturday's outcome was never in serious doubt.

Tallahassee scored the first four points of the game, never trailed and led 21-11 at the end of the first quarter. The Eagles outscored Santa Fe in the second quarter, 22-17, to carry a 43-28 lead to the intermission.

Tallahassee's pressure defense was the story on Saturday. The Eagles forced 40 turnovers, which they converted into 36 points, and limited the Saints to just 32.8 percent (21-of-64) shooting from the floor (2-of-15 three-pointers). In the third quarter, Tallahassee held Santa Fe to just eight points and extended its lead to 27 (63-36) heading to the fourth.

The lead grew to 30 on Lawriell Wilson's three-pointer with 7:13 left in the game and reached as much 37 in the final two minutes.

Wilson had 19 points, six rebounds, seven assists and three steals, one of three players in double-figures for the Eagles.

Jas Hill led all scorers with 26 points. Japonica James had 10.

Tallahassee will take a week off then resume play at St. Petersburg College on Saturday, December 10.
