#TCCBasketball: Eagle women roll in regular season finale

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 25, 2017) – Tallahassee Community College's women's basketball team closed its season in style on Saturday, knocking off Northwest Florida State College, 95-67, on Sophomore Night at the Bill Hebrock Eagledome.

NJCAA No. 9/Region 8 No. 3 Tallahassee finished the regular season with a 22-6 record overall – the Eagles' 7-5 record in Panhandle Conference play was good for a third-place finish, the most conference wins since 2008.

From a historical perspective, the win was also No. 400 in school history and completed the Eagles' first season sweep of Northwest Florida State since 1997.

Both teams got off to slow start and the Eagles' lead was just three, 15-12, after a quarter.

Tallahassee got things cranked up in the second, outscoring the Raiders, 27-15, and led 42-27 at the half.

In the third, the Raiders were still within single digits, trailing 48-39, at the 6:29 mark, but that's where Tallahassee began to pull away.

A 10-2 run, capped by Jas Hill's three-pointer pushed Tallahassee's lead to 58-41 with 5:08 remaining in the quarter. The lead grew to as many as 21 before the Eagles took a 72-52 lead to the fourth.

Tallahassee outscored Northwest Florida State, 23-15, over the final ten minutes for the decisive victory.

Lawriell Wilson scored a game-high 27 points to lead Tallahassee. Hill came off the bench to score 21. Shaigna Wentz scored 14 in a reserve role and Tallahassee native Rosanna Jenije scored 13.

Wilson and Jenije, along with fellow sophomores Lindsay John, Aryn Tarver and Janessa Murphy were recognized after playing their final home game for Tallahassee.

Wilson was also recognized for becoming just the second female player in school history to score 1,000 career points.

Tallahassee head coach Franqua "Q" Bedell was also recognized for winning his 100th career NJCAA game earlier this season.

By finishing third in the PC, Tallahassee is in the pool of three teams vying for an automatic at-large berth to the FCSAA State/NJCAA District VIII Tournament in Ocala.

The automatic berth will be awarded Monday. The remaining two teams will play for the final at-large berth at a neutral site on Friday.
