Eagle women host jamboree on Saturday

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (October 7, 2016) – Tallahassee Community College’s women’s basketball team will host the annual Southern Challenge Jamboree on Saturday at the Bill Hebrock Eagledome.

The Eagles, under the direction of fourth-year head coach Franqua “Q” Bedell, opened preseason practice October 1. Saturday will be the first of two scheduled scrimmage dates leading up to Tallahassee’s November 1 season opener.

Twenty-three teams were originally scheduled for Saturday’s jamboree event, however, Hurricane Matthew whittled the field down to 10, all of whom will play in front of coaches representing a who’s who of four-year schools nationwide.

Games begin at 10 a.m. and will start on the hour. The final round of games will begin at 3 p.m.

Tallahassee’s first action is scheduled for 11 a.m. against Shelton (Ala.) State Community College. The Eagles will also play East Central (Miss.) Community College at 1 p.m. and Florida SouthWestern State College at 3 p.m.

All games will feature four 10-minute quarters.

Other teams who will be participating in the Southern Challenge Jamboree include: Chipola College, Gulf Coast State College, Hinds Community College, Northwest Florida State College, Pensacola State College and St. Petersburg College.

All games will take place in the Bill Hebrock Eagledome and the Lifetime Sports Complex.

General admission is $10.
