#TCCBasketball: Redmond powers Eagles past Eastern Florida

FORT MYERS, Fla. (December 1, 2018) – Juliunn Redmond recorded a double-double, leading five players in double figures as NJCAA No. 5/Region 8 No. 2 Tallahassee Community College rolled past Eastern Florida State College, 103-75, in its first game of the weekend at the annual Florida College's Women's Basketball Shootout. 

Redmond recorded career-highs of 25 points and 10 rebounds – her first career double-double – and also had seven assists and four steals in the win. 

Tallahassee improved to 9-0 and won its 14^th straight game overall dating back to the 2018 season. 

Eastern Florida State was the last team to beat the Eagles, knocking them out of last March's FCSAA State Tournament. For 20 minutes on Saturday, the Titans looked primed to deliver another upset. 

Seeming to pick up where they left off in March, Eastern Florida State came out firing from long distance. Angeni Worley banked in a three to start the scoring and the Titans connected on five of seven attempts from distance in the first quarter. 

Tallahassee erased an early five-point deficit only to trail by as many as six points later in the quarter. Down 26-20, freshman Daisha Bradford drained one of her five three-pointers to cut the Titans' lead in half. She knocked down two free throws with two seconds remaining to cut Eastern Florida State's lead to 28-27 after a quarter. 

Much to Tallahassee's liking, the frantic pace continued in the second, though the Eagles' pressure defense began to swing the momentum. Eastern Florida State hit only 5-of-14 field goal attempts and missed all six of its three-pointers, ceding the lead for good when Tamia Riles' jumper put Tallahassee in front, 44-42, at the 2:01 mark. 

That started a 7-0 run for the Eagles, but the Titans scored the next four points and trailed 49-46 at the half. 

After both teams traded a pair of free throws on its first possessions of the second half, Tallahassee needed just 40 seconds to all but deliver the knockout punch. 

Bradford drained another three-pointer then the Eagles forced back-to-back-to-back turnovers, Redmond scored off each one and, just like that, Tallahassee's lead was 60-48 at the 8:35 mark. 

Eastern Florida State called a timeout, but that was a merely a temporarily solution. Tameria Johnson's three capped what became a 21-2 run and the Eagles led 72-50 with 5:43 left in the quarter. 

Tallahassee led 84-63 through three and by as many as 31 in the fourth. Bradford scored off another Eastern Florida State turnover to give the Eagles a 100-69 lead with 5:52 remaining. 

Tallahassee forced 30 turnovers, which it converted into 29 points and held the Titans to just 33.3 percent (13-of-39) shooting (3-of-12 on threes) over the final three quarters. 

Ironically, the Eagles tied a school record with 13 made three-pointers. In addition to Bradford, who had 19 points overall, Aliyah Lawson also made five treys and finished with a career-high 17 points. 

Riles had 11 points and Dai'shona Washington-Polk, 10. 

Tallahassee will play its second game of the weekend at 1 p.m. Sunday against Indian River State College.
