Stepping Stones: Aliyah Lawson, Coppin State

This is the eighth installment in TCC Athletics' 2019 Stepping Stones series

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (August 7, 2019)—Tallahassee Community College women's basketball standout Aliyah Lawson has signed a national letter of intent with Coppin State University.

Lawson, a native of Whitby, ONT, Canada, recently completed her A.A. degree after enrolling at TCC in Fall 2017.

Lawson sat out the 2017-18 season rehabbing an injury but was still an integral part of the Eagles' run to the NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball National Championship. She was a team manager and also served as official scorer during all home basketball games.

Upon returning to the floor last season, she made an immediate impact for the Eagles, who finished 25-5 and ranked sixth in the country. The 5-foot-6 guard averaged 7.0 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 25 games under former head coach Franqua "Q" Bedell.

Lawson was also a standout in the classroom. She was named First-team All-Academic by the NJCAA and earned all-academic honors from the FCSAA and Panhandle Conference. She was also named a 2019 Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sports Scholar.

Located in Baltimore, Md., the NCAA Division I Eagles compete in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.
