No. 14 Jones pulls away to down Tallahassee

ELLISVILLE, Miss. (November 26, 2019) – Tallahassee Community College battled but fell to NJCAA No. 14 Jones (Miss.) College, 85-66, in women's basketball action on Tuesday afternoon.

The Eagles are now 6-3 on the season.

Tallahassee went toe-to-toe with the nationally-ranked Bobcats for much of the afternoon but couldn't fully overcome two different surges by the hosts that put the Eagles in a double-digit hole.

The Eagles trailed 17-13 after one quarter and were down 24-21 early in the second before Jones rattled off 13 unanswered points for a 37-21 lead at the 2:49 mark.

Tallahassee closed on an 11-5 run to get back within ten, 42-32, at the half. The Eagles carried the momentum into the early stages of the third quarter, using an 11-4 run out of the locker room to get back within three, 46-43, with 6:09 remaining. Again, Jones had an answer.

The Bobcats scored 10 of the next 12 points to extend their lead back to double-figures and carried a 62-49 lead into the final quarter. Jones scored the final seven points of the game over the final 90 seconds to extend the final margin to 19.

Sedayjha Payne scored 18 points to lead Tallahassee. Polina Nikulochkina added 17.

Having completed an opening stretch of nine games in 25 days, the Eagles will enjoy a nine-day layoff before traveling to Niceville, Fla., for the Florida College's Women's Basketball Shootout, Friday and Saturday, December 6 and 7.
