#TCCXCTF: Printiss, Wiederkehr qualify for nationals
ALBANY, Ga. (March 31, 2019) – Tallahassee Community College's track team delivered another piece of school history at Saturday's Alice Coachman Invitational, hosted by Albany State University.
Competing against a quintet of four-year schools, freshmen Genevieve Printiss and Mia Wiederkehr became the Eagles' first-ever runners to qualify for the NJCAA Championships.
Printiss, running in the women's 1500m, finished first in a school-record time of 4:57.01, almost eight seconds faster than her previous best time and more than three seconds clear of the NJCAA qualifying time.
A couple hours later, Wiederkehr won the women's 800m in 2:20.8, lowering her previous best time by more than four seconds and almost two seconds below the NJCAA qualifying time.
Both runners are now eligible to run in the NJCAA Championships in Hobbs, N.M., May 16-18.
Asia Charlton was the only other female participant on Saturday and posted a PR in the women's 200m, finishing in 32.07.
Meanwhile, a persistent headwind accompanied many of the men's events, resulting in a mixed bag of results.
In the 200m race, Mekhi Reynolds, Jovanny Valdez, and Antonio Durant all posted PRs. Reynolds lowered his school-record time by .01 to 22.52, good for sixth, with Valdez right behind him in seventh with a time of 22.58. Durant placed 20th overall in 24.42.
Valdez also ran the 100m, finishing fifth overall with a time of 11.33. Antonio Williams finished 17th in 12.88.
Sheldon Wilson was the lone Tallahassee runner in the 400m, finishing seventh in 52.30 while Gannon Hundley took third in the 800m in 2:05.19.
