TCC signs first women’s cross country member

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (May 17, 2016) – Women’s cross country took another step towards becoming a reality at Tallahassee Community College on Tuesday when head coach Gary Droze signed his first runner to an NJCAA Letter of Intent.

TCC student Jeanna Prisco, a 2015 graduate of Wakulla High School, signed on the proverbial dotted line, signifying an historic moment for the Eagles’ athletic program, who will launch cross country in August – the College’s first new sport in more than 20 years.

Surrounded by family members, her high school coach Paul Hoover and many former Wakulla teammates, Prisco soaked up a moment that, as recent as two years ago, seemed highly improbable.

Prisco didn’t run until her senior year at Wakulla but, in her lone season, helped the War Eagles to the Class 2A, District 2 Championship and a berth in the 2014 FHSAA Cross Country State Championships

“I’m honored to be TCC’s first signee for the (cross country) team,” said Prisco. “I feel like I have worked hard to get to this point.”

When asked what her expectations are for the Eagles’ inaugural season, Prisco said, “I want to work harder and push myself harder.

“I know Coach Droze is an amazing coach. I want to work on getting my time down and becoming a better runner.”

Prisco, who hails from Sopchoppy, Fla., will enter the fall as a sophomore, academically, though she has two years of NJCAA eligibility remaining.
