#TCCBaseball wins rubber game vs. Pensacola State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 16, 2016) - NJCAA Region 8 No. 5 Tallahassee Community College picked up a 15-6 win over Pensacola State College on Wednesday evening, a win that gave the Eages the series win over the Pirates.

After dropping a 7-5 decision at home in Saturday's series opener, Tallahassee outscored Pensacola State 24-7 in games two and three to improve to 2-1 in Panhandle Conference play, 28-7 overall.

Coupled with Chipola College's loss at Gulf Coast State College, Tallahassee and Chipola are co-leaders in the Panhandle Conference standings after the first three-game series. Tallahassee and Chipola open a three-game series on Friday in Marianna.

Tallahassee scored 13 unanswered runs to erase an early 2-0 deficit, highlighted by a nine-run third inning that saw the Eagles send 14 batters to the plate.

Prior to the third-inning outburst, Tallahassee erased the Pirates' two-run lead with four runs in the second.

Walks bracketed a double by Deyvid Silva to load the bases with nobody out. Manny Chavarria's sac-fly plated Silva with the first run of the inning, and Bret Maxwell's RBI-ground out tied the game. With two outs, run-scoring singles by Mac Wilson and Kyle Cavanaugh gave the Eagles a 4-2 lead.

Then came the big inning.

Four Pensacola State errors aided in the damage, along with six Tallahassee hits. All but one batter in the Tallahassee lineup scored in the inning.

Maxwell singled home two runs to push the Eagles' lead to 7-2. After a pair of walks loaded the bases, Cavanaugh doubled home Maxwell and Wilson. Following the Pirates' second pitching change of the inning, Ethan Crout tripled to right-center, scoring Zach Featherstone and Cavanaugh. Scheker singled home the final run of the inning to give Tallahassee a commanding 13-2 lead.

Pensacola State picked up four runs in the top of the fourth to chase Tallahassee starter Junior Gorordo, but Tallahassee answered with two in the bottom half to put itself in position for the run-rule victory.

Cavanaugh pushed hit batting average back over the .400 mark, to .413 to be esact, for going 4-for-5 with four RBIs. Crout was 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Wilson was 2-for-3 and scored three runs.

Thomas Nicoll (4-0), who took over for Gorordo in the fourth, picked up the win with 1.2 innings of work.

Saturday's game at Chipola is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. eastern on Saturday.
