#TCCAthletics weekend preview
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 4, 2017) – All four athletics teams currently in season at Tallahassee Community College will be in action on the road this weekend. Here is a look at where each team will be playing:
Softball
- Saturday at Triple Crown College Classic, 9 a.m./1:30 p.m.
- Sunday at Triple Crown College Classic, 9 a.m./11:15 a.m.
Tallahassee will be looking to build upon its 2-2 record from opening weekend action at the JUCO Kickoff Tournament and Showcase in Clearwater, Fla. Included was a 9-1 loss to nationally-ranked Indian River State, who the Eagles will play at 11:15 a.m. Sunday.
Day two of the Triple Crown begins at 9 a.m. against Palm Beach State College.
Sophomore catcher Elisa Cecchetti was red-hot in Clearwater, batting .692 (9-for-13) with four runs scored, two doubles and six RBIs in four games.
Baseball
- Saturday at Abraham Baldwin (Ga.) Agricultural College, 2 p.m.
Tallahassee beat ABAC, 8-5, on Tuesday at Eagle Field, but the Stallions knocked off defending FCSAA State Champion Santa Fe College on Friday and will have momentum on their side for Saturday's rematch with the Eagles.
Basketball
- Saturday at Northwest Florida State College, 6:30/8:30 p.m.
The Eagles close round two of Panhandle Conference play on Saturday with a trip to Northwest Florida State College.
Women's action opens the doubleheader at 6:30 p.m. eastern followed by the men's game at 8:30 p.m. Both games can be seen live online, courtesy of Emerald Coast TV.
In the women's game, Tallahassee (19-4) will try to nab its first PC road victory against a Raiders squad who is desperate for a win after five straight losses.
Streaks notwithstanding, the real story of Saturday's game lies within the conference standings where the Eagles are in the thick of the race for a postseason berth. However, Tallahassee needs a win to maintain any hope of winning a conference championship and, more importantly, sole possession of second place in the PC. Lose and the night could end in a three-way tie for second place in the loss column.
Having already knocked off NJCAA No. 4 Chipola College on Tuesday, a win over No. 20 Northwest Florida State would put the No. 11 Eagles in position to climb into the top ten and further strengthen their resume when the next national rankings are releasaed on Monday.
Meanwhile, the Tallahassee men (22-3, 5-2) also need a win to keep its conference championship hopes alive heading into the final round of league play.
The No. 9 Eagles lost at home to Chipola on Tuesday, 86-78, a swing game of sorts for Tallahassee. Whereas a win would've given the Eagles a three-game cushion over Chipola in the loss column and, for all intents and purposes, made the PC a two-team race, Tallahassee walked out of the Bill Hebrock Eagledome just one game up on the Indians and two games back of the No. 7 Raiders.
The Eagles have yet to lose consecutive PC games under head coach Mark White and haven't lost back-to-back games, period, since December 2015.
