Eagles land four teams on NJCAA academic honor roll

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (July 10, 2017) – The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has announced its 2016-17 Academic Teams of the Year, and Tallahassee Community College placed four teams on the national honor roll. 

All of the Eagles' female teams – cross country, half marathon, softball and women's basketball – were named honorable mention for posting a minimum 3.0 team GPA during the Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 terms. 

Head coach Patti Townsend's softball squad was named honorable mention for the third straight year, posting a 3.48 team GPA, good for 18th nationally. Five members of the softball team previously earned individual academic honors from the NJCAA, led by first-team all-academic honorees Elisa Cecchetti and Alyssa NeSmith. 

All 15 members of the softball team were named All-Academic by the Panhandle Conference (minimum 3.0 GPA) while 11 earned FCSAA All-Academic honors (minimum 3.3 GPA). 

Cross country and half marathon, comprised of the same nine individuals, earned two separate team honors. With its 3.19 team GPA, the Eagles finished 19th nationally in cross country and third in half marathon. 

The women's basketball team earned a spot on the NJCAA academic honor roll for the first time ever, posting a 3.07 team GPA. 

The four team awards is a single-season high for Tallahassee.
