#TCCBasketball: Eagle men, women earn high marks in Region 8 poll

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (October 25, 2016) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) released its NJCAA Region 8 Men’s and Women’s Basketball Preseason Coaches’ Poll on Tuesday, and Tallahassee Community College will open the season in the top five of both polls.

The Eagle men, who, on Monday, earned a No. 19 preseason ranking by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), are ranked No. 4 in Region 8.

Panhandle Conference rival Northwest Florida State College is ranked No. 1 followed by Eastern Florida State College and Daytona State College. Along with Tallahassee, those four schools landed in the NJCAA preseason poll and in the same order, beginning with top-ranked Northwest Florida State.

Eastern Florida State is preseason No. 4 while Daytona State is No. 12.

Two other Panhandle Conference schools landed in the Region 8 poll – No. 5 Chipola College and No. 10 Gulf Coast State College.

On the women’s side, Tallahassee will open the season with a No. 3 ranking in Region 8, behind defending national champion Gulf Coast State and No. 2 Chipola.

Northwest Florida State is right behind the Eagles at No. 4.

Despite a high ranking in the Region 8 poll, Tallahassee did not earn a preseason ranking from the NJCAA.

Tallahassee’s men and women will open the 2016-17 season on Tuesday, November 1 with a home doubleheader.

The Eagle women will tip things off at 5:30 p.m. against Daytona State College while the men will host Faith (Ga.) Baptist Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m.
