Tallahassee opens at No. 4 in FCSAA Baseball Coaches’ Poll; softball receives votes

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (January 31, 2014) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) released its Baseball and Softball Preseason Coaches’ Polls on Thursday and Tallahassee Community College, coming off a 46-win season in 2013, is ranked No. 4 by the state’s baseball coaches.

The Eagles, despite returning only five players from last year’s Panhandle Conference Championship team, received three first-place votes and 151 total points in the voting.

State College of Florida (four first-place votes) enters the season as the No. 1 team in the poll, followed by Chipola College (three first-place votes) and defending FCSAA Champion and NJCAA Runners-up Palm Beach State College (11 first-place votes). Miami Dade College rounds out the top five.

The second five consists of Seminole State College, St. Johns River State College, Polk State College, Santa Fe College and Broward College.

The remaining three PC teams – Gulf Coast State College (37), Northwest Florida State College (23) and Pensacola State College (4) – received votes.

Tallahassee just missed cracking the top ten in the Softball Coaches’ Poll, finishing with 43 points in the voting, the highest-point total in the “also receiving votes” category. PC rival Northwest Florida State, with 55 points, is ranked No. 10.

Chipola sits atop of the softball poll, followed by Indian River State College, Gulf Coast State, Santa Fe, Florida State College at Jacksonville, Miami Dade, State College of Florida, College of Central Florida and Polk State.
