Eagle women look to clinch postseason berth in home finale

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 14, 2015) – Tallahassee Community College’s men’s and women’s basketball teams will play their home final on Saturday evening when they host Gulf Coast State College.

Game times are 5:30 p.m. (women) and 7:30 p.m. (men) and both games will be carried online by Panhandle Sports Broadcasting at PSBlive.com.

In the opener, the nationally-ranked Eagle women (NJCAA No. 18) can lock up a postseason berth by taking the rubber match against a Commodore team who needs a win on Saturday then some help over the final week of the season in order to advance to next month’s region tournament.

Cat Wells and Jeremica Edwards lead the Eagles in scoring averaging 14.0 points and 8.9 points per game, respectively. Karley Barnes and Wendion Bibbins combine for 12.3 rebounds per game, which will be essential in Saturday’s game.

The Gulf Coast State women are currently ranked seventh in the FCSAA Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Poll. The Commodores are led by sophomore Chelsea Gibson, who is averaging 19.1 points and 8.9 rebounds per game.

Following the women’s game, TCC will honor retiring men’s basketball coach Eddie Barnes, who will coach his final home game in the nightcap.

The Eagles were eliminated from postseason contention with Wednesday’s loss at Pensacola State College and can only play the role of spoiler. Tallahassee is looking to avoid a season sweep by the Commodores.

The Eagles are led by Elmo Stephen and Dirk Williams who combine for 32.8 of the team’s 79.7 points per game.
