TCC re-enters FCSAA Baseball Coaches’ Poll, softball ranked No. 5

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 11, 2015) – Tallahassee Community College’s back-and-forth movement in the state baseball rankings continued this week as the Eagles re-entered the FCSAA Baseball Coaches’ Poll at No. 9.

Tallahassee, the only newcomer to this week’s poll, bumped Panhandle Conference rival Pensacola State College from the rankings. The two teams open the PC schedule with a three-game series beginning Friday in Pensacola.

The Eagles won eight of nine games played last week to improve to 18-8 on the season.

Tallahassee is one of four PC schools in the top ten – Chipola College is ranked No. 4; Northwest Florida State College, No. 5; and Gulf Coast State College, No. 8.

Following the 20-game PC schedule, the top two teams will automatically advance to the NJCAA Gulf District/FCSAA State Baseball Tournament while the third-place finisher will earn the league’s Wild Card berth and a one-game tournament play-in date against the Southern Conference’s No. 3 seed.

Tallahassee advanced through the Wild Card round in 2014, the first season under the new postseason format.

Palm Beach State College remained a solid No. 1 in the baseball coaches’ poll, followed by St. Johns River State College and State College of Florida. No. 6 Santa Fe College and No. 7 Polk State College are sandwiched between Northwest Florida State and Gulf Coast State, and St. Petersburg College rounds out the top ten.

Meanwhile, Tallahassee dropped one spot to No. 5 in the FCSAA Softball Coaches’ Poll.

The Eagles dropped a pair of games to No. 1 College of Central Florida on March 3 and split two games with Florida State College at Jacksonville on Friday and carry a 16-6 record into its final two doubleheaders before PC play commences next Wednesday.

Behind Central Florida is another Mid-Florida Conference school, Seminole State College at No. 2. Indian River State College is ranked third followed by PC rival Chipola College.

St. Johns River State leads the second half of the poll followed by Polk State College, St. Petersburg, Miami Dade College and State College of Florida.
