Eagles sweep pair from Grand Rapids in walk-off fashion

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 4, 2013) – John Price, Jr.'s two-out single in the bottom of the seventh scored Clay Fenwick and gave FCSAA No. 4 Tallahassee Community College a 6-5 walk-off win over Grand Rapids (Mich.) Community College in game two of a doubleheader at Eagle Field on Monday afternoon.

Price Jr.'s heroics negated Grand Rapids' seventh-inning rally from a 5-2 deficit and gave the Eagles wins in the first three games of their five-game series against the Raiders. Tallahassee has now won ten straight games and is 20-3 overall.

A pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth gave Tallahassee a 5-2 lead, but the Raiders scored three, all with two outs, in their final at-bat to tie the game.

Fenwick led off the bottom of the seventh with a single and moved into scoring position when Trent Higginbothem successfully laid down a sac bunt. Two batters later, Price, Jr. singled to left off Kyle McKenzie to bring home Fenwick with the winning run.

Price, Jr. went 2-for-3 with two RBI in the nightcap. Fenwick was 3-for-4 and scored three times.

Chad Mabini (1-0), the last of three Tallahassee pitchers in the seventh, recorded the final out of the inning and was credited with the victory.

Tallahassee had a much easier time in the opener, rolling to a 17-5 victory.

Grand Rapids scored three times in the top of the first off starter and winning pitcher Taylor Wright, but it was all Tallahassee after that.

The Eagles sent ten men to the plate in the first and batted around again the second, scoring six runs in each inning to blow the game wide open. Tallahassee added five runs in the sixth to finish the scoring.

Tallahassee's 15-hit attack included three different players who had three hits apiece – Anthony Torres (3-for-5, 2R, RBI), Fenwick (3-for-5, 3R, RBI) and Higginbothem (3-for-4, 2 R, 4 RBI). Matt Bahnick (2-for-4, 2 R, 2 RBI) and James Abbatinozzi (2-for-4, R, 3 RBI) had two hits each.

Wright (2-0) scattered nine hits over four innings to pick up the win. Bradley Robbins went the final three innings to notch his first save.

Tallahassee and Grand Rapids will wrap up its series with another doubleheader on Tuesday beginning at 3 p.m.
