Quartet of Eagles participate in Spring Signing Ceremony

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (May 3, 2013) – Four student-athletes announced their future plans during Tallahassee Community College's annual Spring Signing Ceremony.

Ethan Bornstein, Jared Stanley and Trent Higginbothem, along with women's basketball's Yanique Gordon took center stage in front of teammates and coaches.

Both Bornstein and Stanley signed with Valdosta State University while Higginbothem will remain in state, playing for the University of North Florida.

Gordon, too, will continue to call the Sunshine State home, playing for the University of Central Florida.

Bornstein, a left-handed pitcher from Winter Park, Fla., has enjoyed a solid sophomore season for the Panhandle Conference Champion Eagles. In 16 appearances, he has totaled 39.2 innings of work and recorded a 2-1 record with three saves and a 3.86 ERA.

Stanley, another lefty, is from Jacksonville, Fla. He, too, has contributed primarily from the bullpen with eight of his 13 appearances coming in a relief role. He is 5-0 with one save and a 4.43 ERA in 40.2 innings.

Valdosta State, located in nearby Valdosta, Ga., is an NCAA Division II member who participates in the Gulf South Conference.

Higginbothem, a third baseman from Pace, Fla., was recently named the Ellis Dungan Panhandle Conference Player of the Year. He is currently batting .385 with three home runs and 66 RBI.

North Florida, located in Jacksonville, Fla., is an NCAA Division I institution and a member of the Atlantic Sun Conference.

Turning to the hardwood, Gordon landed several offers from Division I schools, despite suffering a torn ACL following the 2012-13 season, her second major knee injury in a 13-month span. In the end, she chose Central Florida.

Gordon is from Hanover, Jamaica, however her mother lives in Orlando, home to UCF, which factored into the decision to stay in-state.

As a sophomore, she played in 16 games and averaged 5.9 points and 4.8 rebounds en route to being named honorable mention all-Panhandle Conference.

Central Florida is currently a member of Conference USA, however, it will join the Big East on July 1.
