Manatees complete sweep of top-ranked Eagles

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 22, 2014) – Scott Williams' eighth-inning single scored Sean Trent with the go-ahead run for FCSAA No. 3 State College of Florida and the Manatees defeated No. 1 Tallahassee Community College, 3-2, in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader at Eagle Field.

State College of Florida won Saturday's opener, 6-0, and swept the three games from Tallahassee, sending the Eagles (12-5) to their fourth straight loss.

Tallahassee managed only seven hits combined on Saturday and just two against game one starter Reggie McClain, who went the distance for the nine-inning victory.

Despite just five hits in game two, the Eagles led 1-0 as starting pitcher Cody Alling took a one-hitter into the sixth. But after a one-out double, Trent gave the Manatees the lead on one swing – his two-run homer to left put State College of Florida in front 2-1 and knocked out Alling.

Tallahassee fought back, however, and tied the game in the bottom of the sixth. Geremy Walton singled, advanced to second on Christian Dicks' sac bunt and scored on Ryne Willard's single.

Following a scoreless seventh, the game went to extra innings.

Walton had two of the Eagles' five hits in the nightcap.

Connor O'Brien took the loss in game two for Tallahassee while starter Shawn Herbert was saddled with the loss in the opener.

Tallahassee will try to get back on the winning track when it hosts Abraham Baldwin (Ga.) Agricultural College at 4 p.m. Monday.

Coverage of the game will include a live blog and live stats on TCCeagles.com.
