Gulf Coast State completes sweep against Tallahassee

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (April 8, 2014) – Gulf Coast State College scored seven runs in the fourth inning on its way to an 8-2 win over Tallahassee Community College on Tuesday evening in Panhandle Conference baseball action.

Gulf Coast State swept the series against Tallahassee and sits atop the PC standings at 10-2. Coupled with Northwest Florida State College's loss to Chipola College (9-3 PC), Tallahassee (33-12 overall) remains in a third-place tie in the league standings with the Raiders. Both teams are 5-7.

D.J. McKnight hit a solo home run in the first to put Tallahassee on top and starting pitcher Shaun Herbert carried the 1-0 lead to the fourth before running into trouble.

After allowing three straight singles to start the fourth, the last by Tevin Johnson which tied the game at 1-all, Herbert walked Chandler Durham then hit Max Bartlett with the bases loaded. That ended his day and put the ball in the hands of Collin Strall

The Commodores added five more runs after Strall entered to take a 7-1 lead.

Herbert, who went three-plus innings, was charged with four runs and took the loss.

Meanwhile, the Commodores' Cameron Ragsdale held Tallahassee to just four hits over seven innings and struck out eight to earn the win.

The Eagles scored a run in the eighth, courtesy of Quincy Nieporte's sac-fly, to complete the scoring.

Tallahassee travels to Pensacola State College on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. eastern first pitch.
