TCC’s Ricky Negron selected by San Diego Padres in MLB Draft

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (June 13, 2014) – Tallahassee Community College third baseman Ricky Negron was selected by the San Diego Padres in the 39th round of Major League Baseball's First-Year Player Draft.

Negron, a rising sophomore from Babylon, N.Y., was the 1167th pick overall and joined 39 other players in the Padres' 2014 draft class.

Negron, who appeared in 24 games as a freshman with the Eagles, batted .302 with one home run and 14 RBI.

Prior to the draft, Tallahassee head coach Mike McLeod predicted the event would be highly unpredictable and the selection certainly caught Negron by surprise.

"I had no idea I was going to get drafted," said Negron. "I was shocked when I heard my name called.

"It (getting drafted by the Padres) was one of the most exciting moments of my life."

Despite being picked by San Diego, Negron has indicated he plans to return to Tallahassee in the fall to complete his A.A. degree and improve his game – all with the hopes of increasing his stock and moving up the draft board in 2015.
