TCC’s Bobby Rice signs with Valdosta State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (July 16, 2014) – Tallahassee Community College baseball standout Bobby Rice has signed a national letter of intent with Valdosta State University. 

Rice, a native of Monticello, Fla., completed a stellar prep career at North Florida Christian School before enjoying two separate stints at TCC. 

As a freshman in 2012, Rice, who played multiple positions for the Eagles, batted .347 with one home run and 28 RBI on his way to first-team All-Panhandle Conference honors. After taking a redshirt season the following year, Rice picked up where he left off in 2014, adding another All-Panhandle Conference honor to his resume. 

In 57 games, primarily at third base, he batted .296 with 30 RBI and finished with a .298 career batting average 106 career games with the Eagles. 

"I'm real proud for Bobby," said Tallahassee head coach Mike McLeod. "He's a plus-plus person, plus-plus player and he's going to be a great representative for Valdosta State's program. 

"He's the kind of individual every coach would want to have in his program." 

Rice was a standout in the classroom as well, having earned all-academic honors from both the Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) and Panhandle Conference while a student-athlete at TCC. 

Valdosta State, an NCAA Division II program, competes in the Gulf South Conference.

He will be joined on the Blazers' roster by former Eagles Jarod Stanley, Cameron Tewksbury, Kevin Cruz and Ethan Bornstein.
