#TCCBaseball: late rally dooms Eagles in loss to South Georgia State

DOUGLAS, Ga. (March 1, 2016) – South Georgia State College scored six runs in the bottom of the eighth to steal a 9-6 win from NJCAA Region 8 No. 1 Tallahassee Community College on Tuesday afternoon.

Tallahassee, who earlier in the day earned the state of Florida's top ranking for a fourth straight week, dropped to 19-5 while South Georgia State snapped an eight-game losing streak and improved to 6-11.

The Eagles carried a 6-3 lead to the bottom of the eighth but were unable to hold the lead. South Georgia State scored six runs and tagged Rion Murrah with the loss.

The loss negated a solid outing by starting pitcher Nick Marchese, who followed up his February 22 no-hitter vs. Thomas University's JV squad by allowing just one run, which was unearned.

Marchese exited after six innings with the Eagles in front 5-1, but South Georgia State cut into Tallahassee's lead with two runs in the seventh.

Tallahassee got a run back in the top of the eighth for a 6-3 lead. When the Eagles came to bat in the ninth, however, they were staring at a 9-6 deficit.

Kyle Cavanaugh was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs to lead the Tallahassee offense.

The Eagles will return to action on Thursday when they host Darton (Ga.) State College at 4 p.m.
