#TCCBaseball: Eagles pound Grand Rapids in series opener

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 4, 2016) - Tallahassee Community College welcomed Grand Rapids (Mich.) Community College to Eagle Field on Friday and knocked off the Raiders, 17-5.

Tallahassee is now 21-5 while Friday marked the 2016 opener for Grand Rapids, who is making its annual trip to the Panhandle to usher in a new season.

The Eagles collected a season-high 22 hits and received multi-hit games from Josh Nothdorft (4-for-5, two runs, four RBIs), Mac Wilson (3-for-5, two runs, one RBI), Tyler Kinard (2-for-3, two runs, one RBI), Bret Maxwell (2-for-6, two runs) and Myron Mebane (3-for-5, one run, two RBIs).

Tallahassee wasted no time ending the drama, sending 14 batters to the plate and scoring eight runs on eight hits in the bottom of the first.

Kyle Cavanaugh singled home Nothdorft and Wilson for the first runs of the game. Later, Nothdorft singled home Deyvid Silva and Mebane for the final runs of the inning.

Nothdorft singled home another run in the second to give the Eagles a 9-0 lead.

The teams swapped runs in the fourth then both put four runs on the board in the sixth. Two of Tallahassee's runs came via Bryan Scheker's two-run homer to left.

The Eagles completed the scoring with a run in the seventh and two more in the eighth.

Felix Dieguez (4-0) allowed five runs over six innings but picked up the win. Zach Chappell recorded a three-inning save, his third.

The Eagles travel to Darton (Ga.) State College for a 2 p.m. first pitch on Saturday then will resume the series with Grand Rapids at 2 p.m. Sunday at Eagle Field.
