#TCCBaseball falls hard to Shelton State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 11, 2017) – Shelton (Ala.) State Community College used a 10-run sixth inning to knock off Tallahassee Community College 23-12 in Saturday afternoon baseball at Eagle Field. 

Shelton State (2-0) has taken the first two games of the weekend series against Tallahassee (5-5) and will go for the series sweep when the teams play at 1 p.m. Sunday. 

Tallahassee has now dropped five straight games since opening the season 5-0. 

Early on, it looked like Saturday was the day the Eagles would snap their losing streak. 

Tallahassee erased a 1-0 deficit with a five-run third inning and starting pitcher Brooks Buckler had a 5-2 lead through five. 

Then the sixth inning happened. 

After Buckler allowed a leadoff single, Octavio Marin came on in relief – the first of three relievers to take the mound in the inning. The Buccaneers eventually sent 14 men to the plate in the inning and collected eight hits, the last a three-run homer by John David Kubiszyn that finished off a 10-run inning and put Tallahassee in a 12-5 hole. 

Shelton State scored 21 of its 23 runs in its final four at-bats, adding seven in the seventh and four more in the eighth. 

Tanner Thomas' 3-run homer in the ninth capped the scoring for Tallahassee, who racked up 19 hits of their own. 

Jordan Curtis went 5-for-6, scored three runs and stole three bases. 

Cole Vann was 3-for-5 with two RBIs.

Chris Clark homered and was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and two driven in.
