#TCCBaseball drops two to Thomas U

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 20, 2017) – Thomas University's JV squad came to Eagle Field on Monday and left with a pair of victories.

The Night Hawks swept a doubleheader from the host Eagles, winning by the scores of 4-3 and 3-1.

In game one, Tallahassee got on the board first with a couple of runs in the third inning.

Josh Nothdorft's single to shallow right-center scored Chris Clark. The next batter, Deyvid Silva, singled home Nothdorft, and the Eagles led 2-0.

Tallahassee stranded two runners in the inning, and left 18 on the base in the doubleheader.

Thomas got on the board with a run in the fourth then scored the tying and go-ahead runs in the fifth. In the sixth, Sam Catherwood doubled with two outs and scored all the way from second when Octavio Marin uncorked a wild pitch. The insurance run proved to be the difference in the game.

Trailing 4-2, Jordan Curtis led off the bottom of the seventh with a solo homer to cut Thomas' lead in half.

Following a one-out walk to Silva, Cole Vann singled to right field. Silva, who was running on the pitch, tried to score all the way from first but was thrown out at home.

Tallahassee still had the tying run in scoring position, but Chris Hawkins flied out to end the game.

Hunter Shuff took the loss for Tallahassee.

In the nightcap, Niko Leontarakis and Alex Stobert combined to limit the Night Hawks to just three hits, but Thomas still pulled out the 3-1 win.

Thomas scored two runs in the top of the third to knock out Leontarakis, who was tagged with the loss.

Tallahassee got one of the runs back in the bottom half when Vann singled home Silva.

Vann went 3-for-4 in game two.

Thomas tacked on a run in the fourth to complete the scoring.

Tallahassee, now 7-9 on the season, will travel to Santa Fe College for a 3 p.m. game on Wednesday.
