#TCCBaseball splits DH in final PC tune-up

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 5, 2017) – Tallahassee Community College's baseball team split a doubleheader on Saturday to close out non-conference play. 

The Eagles saw their seven-game winning snapped in the opener, falling to East Georgia State College, 13-7, but bounced back for a 13-2 win over Grand Rapids (Mich.) Community College in the second game of the day-night twinbill. 

In the opener, Tallahassee scored six runs in the bottom of the second but things unraveled a couple of innings later. 

Aided by three Tallahassee errors, East Georgia State sent 12 men to the plate and scored seven times to grab the lead. 

The Eagles committed seven errors in the game. 

The Bobcats added two runs in the sixth and seventh to extend their lead to 11-6 and, following Tucker Rayburn's seventh-inning sac-fly, tacked on the final two runs in the eighth. 

Cole Vann (2-for-5) and Deyvid Silva (2-for-4) led the Eagles offensively. 

Alex Stobert (2-2) took the loss for Tallahassee. 

In the nightcap, the Eagles took care of Grand Rapids 13-2. 

Tallahassee managed only six hits, but took advantage of five errors and 10 walks issued by the Raiders' pitchers. 

Grand Rapids committed three errors in the bottom of the first, which Tallahassee promptly used as a springboard to a seven-run inning. 

Silva's double to deep left-center scored Jordan Curtis and Bryce Plummer to start the scoring. After a hit-batsman loaded the bases, Jack Hartman smacked a grand slam to make it 6-0. 

Silva was 2-for-4 with two RBIs while Hartman went 3-for-3 with six RBIs. 

Curtis returned to the plate a second time and scored Chris Hawkins on a sac-fly. 

The run support was more than enough for Niko Leontarakis, who pitched a five-inning complete game. He allowed four hits, two runs and one walk while striking out four. 

The Eagles open Panhandle Conference play at 5 p.m. Tuesday when Chipola College pays a visit to Eagle Field.
