#TCCBaseball: Chipola too much for Eagles in PC opener

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 7, 2017) – Tallahassee Community College's 2017 Panhandle Conference schedule started on a rough note on Tuesday with a 16-5 loss to Chipola College.

Tallahassee is now 15-12 on the season (0-1 PC).

Playing its first game as the nation's number one team, Chipola proved worthy of the ranking, delivering a 17-hit attack in the six-inning victory. Despite the offensive output, which included seven extra base hits, the Indians scored their first two runs without the benefit of a hit.

With two outs and runners on the corners, Tallahassee starter Brooks Buckler (1-3) was called for a balk, allowing Jose Caballero to score from third. Chipola caught another break when centerfielder Jordan Curtis mishandled a fly ball off the bat of Max Guzman, resulting in the second run of the inning.

Chipola sent 11 men to the plate in the second, scoring six more runs to open up an 8-0 lead.

Tallahassee got on the board in the second on Cole Vann's solo homer then, after Chipola got the run back in its next at-bat, added two more in the bottom of the third.

Curtis doubled home Bryce Plummer, stole third and scored on Bowden Francis' wild pitch.

Chipola scored three runs in the fourth and four more in the sixth to position itself for the win.

Tallahassee put two runs on the board in the sixth, courtesy of Chris Clark's RBI-single and Aaron Haughton's RBI-double, to finish the scoring.

Clark finished 2-for-2 after entering the game as a defensive replacement in the fourth.

Tallahassee and Chipola will continue a four-game series on Thursday with a 5 p.m. game at Eagle Field.
