#TCCBaseball falls to Gulf Coast State, into tie for third

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (April 15, 2017) – The back-and-forth battle between Tallahassee Community College and Gulf Coast State College took another turn on Saturday as the Commodores defeated the Eagles, 4-2.

Gulf Coast State's Alec Wisely outdueled Tallahassee's Nick Marchese for the win, as both pitchers went the distance in a game that was in the books in just two hours.

Tallahassee had a two-game lead over Gulf Coast State for third place in the Panhandle Conference standings one week ago, only to see the Commodores pull even on Wednesday. The Eagles regained sole possession of third with Friday's 12-7 win over the Commodores and had a chance to seize control of the PC Wild Card race on Saturday.

Instead, the loss evened both teams' conference record once again, this time at 9-11 with four games remaining. More importantly, Gulf Coast State clinched the tie-breaker with Tallahassee, if needed, with the victory.

The teams split six regular season meetings, but Gulf Coast State's nine league victories includes one over conference champion Chipola College while Tallahassee went winless in six tries against the Indians.

Both Tallahassee and Gulf Coast State are two games back of second place Northwest Florida State (10-8), who has six games remaining, including a season-ending two-game set against the Eagles.

On Saturday, the Commodores did all of their damage in the first two innings against Marchese, who scattered eight hits over eight innings.

Tallahassee got on the board with a run in the fourth and added one in the ninth, but its rally fell short.

Tallahassee will travel to Pensacola State College on Monday to open a two-game series with the Pirates. First pitch is at 5 p.m. eastern.
