Trio of former Eagles ready for CWS debut

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (June 16, 2017) – Three former Tallahassee Community College baseball standouts are ready to play on college baseball's biggest stage – the College World Series in Omaha, Neb.

Florida State University's Quincy Nieporte (TCC '14) and Kyle Cavanaugh ('16) and Louisiana State University's Collin Strall ('14) will be the 16th, 17th and 18th former Eagles to appear in the CWS and the first since Mack Waugh in 2012 with Florida State.

Coincidentally, all three Eagle alums will be on the field at the same time – Florida State and LSU play an opening round game at 8 p.m. Saturday.

Nieporte and Strall were teammates on Mike McLeod's 2014 squad that went 40-18 and was one of the last four teams in contention for the NJCAA Gulf District/FCSAA State Championship.

Nieporte, who played first base, led Tallahassee with a .374 batting average and 61 RBIs – tops in Florida – while also smacking six home runs en route to being named Second-team FCSAA All-State and First-team All-Panhandle Conference.

Strall made the Eagles' roster as a walk-on then delivered a second-team all-PC season on the mound. He was 7-2 with one save and a 2.54 ERA in 60.1 innings over 24 appearances.

Cavanaugh played first base for the Eagles in 2016 and was named First-team FCSAA All-State, First-team All-PC and NJCAA All-Gulf District after batting .399 with four home runs and 58 RBIs.

Nieporte is currently batting .305 with 10 home runs and 78 RBIs while Cavanaugh is batting .200 with one homer and one RBI. Both players homered in Florida State's 19-0 win over Sam Houston State that clinched a berth in the CWS.

Meanwhile, Strall has appeared in 12 games in 2017 and posted a 0-2 record and 4.61 ERA.
