#TCCBaseball: Eagles fall in extras

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 3, 2018) – South Georgia State College pushed across an unearned run in the top of the eleventh and defeated Tallahassee Community College, 4-3, on Saturday afternoon in NJCAA baseball action. 

Tallahassee is now 3-3 on the season while South Georgia State (1-3) broke into the win column with the triumph. 

Pinch hitter Mikell Collins led off the eleventh for the Hawks and reached base and advanced to second on Trey Polewski's bobble. Two batters later, he scored on Blake Brito's sac-fly to deep center. 

Tallahassee went down in order in the bottom half to end the game. 

The Eagles jumped on Hawks starter Mark Mixon right out of the gate. Taylor Lomack led things off with a single and advanced to third when Tanner Thomas smacked a double off the wall in straightaway center. 

Cole Vann singled home Lomack and when centerfielder Garrison Hurd's throw was up the line and to the backstop, it allowed Thomas to round third and cross home for a 2-0 lead. 

Tallahassee didn't get another hit until the seventh when it found itself trailing. South Georgia State scored single runs in the third, fifth and sixth innings to grab a 3-2 lead. 

The Eagles tied the game in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings. 

Jayson Sowden bunted his way on with one out, stole second and advanced to third when Brito's throw sailed into centerfield. Tucker Rayburn reached on an infield single, but Sowden had to stay put on third. He scored when Polewski reached on a fielder's choice. 

Tallahassee stranded the winning run in scoring position in both the ninth and tenth innings and left 12 total runners on base. 

Tallahassee finished with just seven hits, each by a different player. Thomas walked twice in addition to having a hit. 

Alex Stobert (0-1), the last of five Tallahassee pitcher, took the loss. Justin Sorokowski started and struck out 10 over five innings. 

Tallahassee will host Santa Fe College at 4 p.m. Monday.
