#TCCBaseball: Eagles win in extras over Andrew

CUTHBERT, Ga. (February 21, 2018) – Tallahassee Community College rallied from a 6-3 deficit to defeat Andrew (Ga.) College, 8-7, in 13 innings on Wednesday in NJCAA baseball action.

Tallahassee has won five straight to push its record to 10-6 heading into this weekend's three-game series with Chattahoochee Valley (Ala.) Community College.

With the game tied at seven, Tanner Thomas led off the 13th with a walk. Cole Vann beat out an infield single and Jayson Sowden bunted his way on to load the bases.

Following a fielder's choice that retired Thomas at home, Rawlins Cleveland beat out a potential inning-ending double play, scoring Vann from third with what proved to be the winning run.

In the bottom of the 13th, a two-out error extended the inning for the Tigers but Luke Ard (1-0), the Eagles' eighth pitcher of the day, struck out Brent Todys to end the game, the 19th strikeout of the game for Tallahassee.

After one inning, the game seemed destined for a score that resembled a football game. Tallahassee jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead only to see Andrew plate six runs.

The Fighting Tigers scored their runs on just three hits, but took advantage of two walks, a hit batsman, two wild pitches and a passed ball. Spencer Nelson's grand slam gave Andrew a 6-0 lead and ended Vladimir Zavala's afternoon after just two-thirds of an inning.

The score remained 6-3 into the seventh when Tucker Rayburn singled home Trey Polewski. Thomas' two-out single in the eighth scored Mason Miller and Polewski to tie the game.

The teams traded runs in the 11th. Rayburn's double to deep left-center scored Sowden with the Tallahassee run.

Both Miller and Thomas went 3-fof-5. Vann was 2-for-6, Rayburn was 2-for-7 and Sowden came off the bench to go 2-for-4.

Friday's series opener against Chattahoochee Valley begins at 4 p.m.
