#TCCBaseball: Pirates take series opener

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 27, 2018) – Pensacola State College took game one of a four-game series with Tallahassee Community College, winning 3-1 on Tuesday evening at Eagle Field.

Tallahassee (25-13, 3-6 Panhandle Conference) slipped into last place in the Panhandle Conference standings with the loss, swapping places with the Pirates (17-19), who are now 5-8 in league play.

Tallahassee outhit Pensacola State, 8-6, but stranded nine base runners, including three in the eighth. The Eagles also left two runners on in the first after scoring what turned out to be their only run of the game.

Tanner Thomas tripled with two outs and later scored on Logan Lacey's single. With two on and two outs, Tucker Rayburn grounded out to short.

Pensacola State's Evan Floyd pitched six innings and allowed five hits and one run to earn the victory. Aaron Ginn picked up the save.

Justin Sorokowski started and pitched into the sixth for Tallahassee and handed a 1-1 game to the bullpen.

The game remained tied into the seventh when Derick Garcia (3-4) ran into trouble with nobody on and two outs. A walk, followed by Bucky McGlamry's triple scored the go-ahead run and brought on Alex Stobert. A wild pitch scored McGlamry and gave the Pirates a 3-1 lead.

Lacey and Keith Lyle both went 2-for-4.

Pensacola State will return to Tallahassee on Thursday for game two of the series. First pitch is 5 p.m.
