#TCCBaseball: Eagles ride arms to sweep Pirates

PENSACOLA, Fla. (March 31, 2018) – Tallahassee Community College won a pair of must-win games on Saturday, sweeping a doubleheader from Pensacola State College, 4-1 in nine innings and 1-0.

Tallahassee jumped Pensacola State (18-21, 6-10 PC) in the Panhandle Conference standings and into a third-place tie alongside Northwest Florida State College. The Eagles (27-14, 5-7) are two games behind second place Gulf Coast State College (7-5), heading into next week's crucial four-game series with the Raiders (5-7).

Pitching was dominant for both teams on Saturday, but the Eagles were a little better in each game. Tallahassee allowed just six hits and one walk in 16 total innings to even this week's four-game series at two games apiece.

In game two, Christian Dearman (2-0) allowed one hit over 4.1 innings in the Eagles' 1-0 win.

Keith Lyle's two-out single in the fourth scored Cole Vann, who reached base on a leadoff walk, for the game's only run.

Pensacola State threatened in the fifth, advancing the tying and go-ahead runs into scoring position with two outs against Derick Garcia, who entered the game after Dearman recorded the first out of the inning. Josh Rulli was thrown out attempting to steal home, protecting Tallahassee's 1-0 lead.

Jake Kinney came on after a two-out error in the sixth put the tying run on base. He struck out Richard Sorrenti to end the inning and retired the side in order in the seventh for his third save.

Kinney (4-0) got the game one win with 1.1 scoreless innings in relief of Alex Stobert, who allowed just five hits and one run over 7.2 innings. He struck out ten.

The game, scheduled for seven innings, went to the ninth tied at one when the Eagles put together a two-out rally.

With runners on first and second, Aaron Ginn hit consecutive batters – Vann and Tucker Rayburn, the latter scoring Taylor Lomack with the go-ahead run.

Logan Lacey followed with a single to center, scoring Tanner Thomas and Vann for a 4-1 cushion.

Kinney retired the Pirates in order in the ninth to close the game.

Lomack and Luke Ard had two hits each for the Eagles.

Tallahassee and Northwest Florida State will open a four-game series at Eagle Field on Tuesday. First pitch is at 5 p.m.
