#TCCBaseball sweeps NWF State, takes over second in PC

NICEVILLE, Fla. (April 6, 2018) – Tallahassee Community College completed a four-game series sweep of Northwest Florida State College on Friday, winning both games of a doubleheader on the Raiders' home field. 

The Eagles scored a 4-1 victory in game one then rallied for a 5-4 win in game two to run their winning streak to six. 

One week ago, Tallahassee sat in last place in the Panhandle Conference standings at 3-7. Now, all of a sudden, the Eagles have sole possession of second place – two games ahead of Gulf Coast State College (7-9), who lost both games of Friday's doubleheader against Chipola College. Tallahassee also clinched the season series against Northwest Florida State and owns the head-to-head tie-breaker with the Raiders (5-11). 

As was the case throughout the previous four games during the winning streak, Tallahassee rode two strong pitching efforts to victory. 

Alex Stobert (4-1) allowed only four hits and one run in 5.1 innings in game one to get the win over Raiders ace Grant Stewart, who entered the game atop the Region 8 leaderboard in wins (8) and ERA (1.73). 

Stewart pitched a complete game and struck out seven but allowed nine hits – including home runs to Logan Lacey and Cole Vann – and four walks. 

After the teams traded first-inning runs, Tallahassee jumped back in front in the second when Kyle Benson scored on a fielder's choice. 

Lacey led off the third with a solo homer, and Vann provided an insurance run with a leadoff homer in the seventh. 

Prior to Vann's homer, the Raiders put the tying runs on with one out in the bottom of the sixth. That's when Tallahassee head coach Mike McLeod went to his closer, Jake Kinney. 

Kinney needed but six pitches to strike out Cole Halfacre and Lee Musgraves to end the threat. He retired the side in order in the seventh to record his sixth save. 

Taylor Lomack went 2-for-3. Vann was 1-for-3 with two RBI. 

In game two, Tallahassee came from behind for the third time in four games against Northwest Florida State. The Eagles trailed 1-0 and 4-2 but tied the game in the fifth and scored the go-ahead run in the sixth in the 5-4 win. 

Lacey drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the game in the top of the fifth. An inning later, Tucker Rayburn scored on a two-out error to put the Eagles in front. 

Tyler Lehrmann (4-0) retired the final nine batters he faced to earn the win. He allowed only two hits and one run in four innings while striking out six. Starter Christian Dearman struck out five in three innings as the Eagles recorded their 20^th double-digit strikeout game. 

Vann had two of the Eagles' six hits. 

Tallahassee opens a home-and-home with league-leading Chipola at 6 p.m. Monday in Marianna.
