#TCCBaseball: Eagles rally late to beat Pensacola State

PENSACOLA, Fla. (April 21, 2018) – Tallahassee Community College scored five runs over the last two innings, including three in the top of the ninth, to break a 2-2 tie and beat Pensacola State College, 5-2, on Saturday.

Tallahassee (35-16, 13-9 Panhandle Conference) has won three straight and 10 of 12 overall.

After scoring two runs in the eighth to tie the game, the Eagles went to work again in the top of the ninth.

Jayson Sowden drew a leadoff walk, stole second then reached third when the next batter, Trey Polewski, bunted his way on. Kyle Benson drew a one-out walk to load the bases, and Mason Miller singled to score Sowden with the go-ahead run although Polewski was thrown out at the plate trying to score from second.

Tallahassee wasn't done. After Tanner Thomas was hit by a pitch to re-load the bases, Pensacola State third baseman Malique Foreman mishandled a grounder off the bat of Cole Vann, allowing Benson and Miller to score and increase the Eagles' lead to 5-2.

Derick Garcia (5-4) pitched the final two innings to earn the win for Tallahassee.

Alex Stobert started for the Eagles and scattered seven hits over 5.1 innings but trailed 2-0 when he exited in the sixth.

Christian Dearman and Garcia combined to limit the Pirates to just one hit over the final 3.2 innings.

Pensacola State starter D.J. Wilkinson took a shutout into the eighth but his day ended after a leadoff single by Miller. Thomas drew a base on balls and both runners moved up a base following a wild pitch.

Vann's ground out scored Miller to get Tallahassee on the board, and Logan Lacey's sac-fly scored Thomas to tie the game.

Miller went 3-for-5, scored twice and drove in a run for the Eagles, who will play their final home game of the season at 5 p.m. Monday against Northwest Florida State College.
