#TCCBaseball splits DH in postseason tune-up

MARIANNA, Fla. (May 5, 2018) – Tallahassee Community College split a doubleheader on Saturday in the Eagles' final tune-up prior to postseason play, which begins Friday.

Tallahassee dropped a 6-5 decision to NJCAA (Division 2) No. 1 LSU-Eunice in the first game of the day then picked up a 5-2 win over St. Johns River State College.

Against the Vikings, the Eagles staked Brandon Reitz to a 3-0 lead through two innings and that turned out to be enough offense for the win. The teams traded runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

Reitz pitched three innings before giving way to Tyler Lehrmann (5-1), who picked up the win with two innings in relief. Jake Kinney pitched the final two innings for the save.

Jayson Sowden led the Eagles' 12-hit attack, going 3-for-3 with two RBI. Logan Lacey and Trey Polewski had two hit each.

In the first game of the day, LSU-Eunice scored three two-out runs off errors in the final two innings to erase Tallahassee's 5-3 lead and get the win.

The Eagles got on the board with a run in the top of the first but found itself trailing 2-1 entering the third.

Tanner Thomas put Tallahassee back in front, 3-2, with a two-run homer, but the lead was short-lived and the game moved to the fifth tied at 3-all.

A LSU-Eunice error led to a pair of runs on back-to-back singles by Cole Vann and Lacey and Tallahassee regained the lead 5-3.

Christian Dearman (2-1) took the loss for Tallahassee.

The Eagles will open play in the NJCAA Gulf District/FCSAA State Tournament at 10 a.m. Friday morning against State College of Florida.
