Eagles in the Major League Baseball Draft

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (June 7, 2018) – Tallahassee Community College baseball standout Jake Kinney was drafted in the 33rd round of the 2018 Major League Baseball First-year Player Draft by the Philadelphia Phillies. 

Kinney, a right-handed pitcher who stands 6-foot-7, was the third pick of the 33rd round and the 977th player drafted overall in the three-day event. 

A native of Zephyrhills, Fla., Kinney enjoyed a stellar 2018 season with the Eagles after playing his freshman season at Florida Southern College. 

In 26 appearances, Kinney posted a record of 4-0 with seven saves and a 2.04 ERA. In 39.2 innings, he allowed only 27 hits and 19 walks while striking out 65 batters. 

He was named the FCSAA and Panhandle Conference Fireman of the Year. 

Kinney is currently committed to attend Florida State University where he join the Seminoles' baseball team as a walk-on this fall.
