#TCCBaseball: Eagles fall to Santa Fe in pitchers’ duel

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (January 28, 2019) – Santa Fe College scored a pair of runs in the top of the fifth and that was the difference in a 2-0 win over Tallahassee Community College on Monday evening at Eagle Field.

Tallahassee (2-2) has split its first four games while the Saints improved to 4-0.

Ten different pitchers – six for Tallahassee and four for Santa Fe – grabbed the spotlight on Monday. Combined, they walked just six batters while striking out 25 (Tallahassee 12, Santa Fe 13). The offenses managed just nine hits total, but two of Santa Fe's six base knocks came in the fifth, resulting in the game's only runs.

With one out, Parker Biederer beat out an infield single and stole second to move into scoring position. The Eagles' Collier Baggett struck out Caleb Stafford for the second out but a two-out walk to Kyler Marquis extended the inning. Following a pitching change, Brock Edge fought off a pitch from Allen Roulette and got it just over second baseman Trent Jeffcoat's head to plate Biederer for the first run of the game.

Marquis, who advanced to third on the RBI-hit, scored when he and Edge successfully pulled off a double steal.

Tallahassee squandered its best run-scoring opportunity an inning earlier when Luke Ard led off the inning with a double but was stranded at third. That turned out to be the Eagles' only runner to advance into scoring position.

Ard, Chase Forester and Josh Bedell-Murray had the Eagles' three hits.

Collier Baggett (0-1) took the loss in relief for Tallahassee.

The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday when they host South Georgia State College at 4 p.m.
