#TCCBaseball takes series opener with Shelton State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 8, 2019) – Tallahassee Community College defeated Shelton (Ala.) State Community College, 10-5, on Friday evening in game one of a three-game set between the two teams. 

Tallahassee improved to 5-3 with its second straight win. Meanwhile, Friday marked the season opener for the Buccaneers (0-1). 

Tallahassee jumped on Shelton State for three runs in the bottom of the first. Ridge Abinsay's RBI-single started the scoring, and Jeff Athey singled home Luke Ard and Logan Lacey

Shelton State tied the game in the third to chase Eagle starter Chase Hatfield, but the Eagles regained the lead for good in the fourth. 

Taylor Lomack led off the inning with a single and eventually scored on a wild pitch to put Tallahassee in front, 4-3. 

After scoring twice in the fifth, the Eagles blew the game open with four more in the sixth, despite only two hits in the inning.

Abinsay and Chase Forester had three hits each for Tallahassee. 

Four Eagle pitchers combined to strike out 15 batters. Hatfield struck out four in 2.2 innings. He was followed by Leighton Alley (1-0), who struck out five in 2.2 innings and picked up the win. Tyler Lehrmann added six strikeouts, pitching the final 3.1 innings. 

Game two of the series begins at 2 p.m. Saturday.
