#TCCBaseball strikes late to beat Shelton State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 9, 2019) – Trent Jeffcoat's two-out single in the seventh scored Tyler Lala to break a 6-6 tie and send Tallahassee Community College to a 10-6 win over Shelton (Ala.) State Community College on Saturday afternoon.

Tallahassee (6-3) has taken the first two games against the Buccaneers and will go for the series sweep at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Shelton State scored four times in the top of the sixth to erase a 6-2 deficit. The score remained tied into the home half of the seventh.

With nobody on and one out, Luke Ard doubled and Tyler Lala was hit by a pitch to move the go-ahead run into scoring position. After a fielder's choice retired Ard at third for the second out, Jeffcoat singled to shallow center allowing Lala to score what proved to be the winning run.

Tallahassee extended its lead with three runs in the bottom of the eighth.

Chase Forester (2-0) held Shelton State scoreless and allowed only two hits over the final 3.1 innings to earn the win. He struck out four and was part of another double-digit strikeout effort (10) for the Eagles' pitching staff.

Alex Ray and Luke Ard both went 3-for-4 for the Eagles while Logan Lacey hit a two-run homer and drove in three runs total.
