#TCCBaseball: Eagles take finale vs. Chipola, stay alive in PC race

MARIANNA, Fla. (April 13, 2019) – Facing a must-win scenario, Tallahassee Community College's baseball team came through with a 7-5 win at Chipola College on Saturday afternoon. 

With the win, Tallahassee (28-17, 9-9 Panhandle Conference) pulled back within three games of Chipola (25-15, 12-6) in the PC standings but must finish in front of the Indians to advance to the postseason. Thus, the Eagles must make up four games with only six remaining. 

A loss on Saturday would have all but eliminated Tallahassee and after two innings the Eagles found themselves trailing, 4-3. Two runs in the third put Tallahassee in front to stay. 

Taylor Lomack started the inning with a single, and Cyrus Grimes walked. After a groundout to third advanced both runners Jeff Athey singled home Lomack to tie the game at four. Following a pitching change, Tyler Lala's base hit to left plated Grimes with the go-ahead run. 

The teams traded runs in the fifth to leave the Eagles in front, 6-5. Chase Forester's two-out single in the sixth scored Rawlins Cleveland with an insurance run for a 7-5 lead. 

Tyler Lehrmann, who entered the game with two outs in the fifth, pitched the final 4.1 innings to record the save and preserve the win for Collier Baggett (3-1). Lehrmann (4.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K) and Baggett (3.1 IP, 4 H, R, BB, 2 K) allowed only four hits and one run over the final 7.2 innings. 

Neither team's starter got out of the third. Tallahassee's Allen Roulette exited with one out in the second, as the Indians were on their way to scoring four runs to erase the Eagles' 3-0 lead. Chipola's Jose Visaez was knocked out with one out in the third and was charged with five of Tallahassee's runs. 

Tallahassee had 13 hits on the afternoon, led by Athey, who was 3-for-5. Grimes, Cleveland and Ridge Abinsay had two hits each. 

The Eagles will return to play on Friday at Northwest Florida State College. First pitch is 4 p.m. eastern.
