Eagles rally to beat Pasco-Hernando State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 7, 2020) – Tallahassee Community College scored the tying and go-ahead runs in the bottom of the sixth then held on for a 4-3 win over Pasco-Hernando State College in Friday afternoon action at the TCC Diamond Classic. 

The Eagles (3-3) snapped a two-game losing streak with the win against the Bobcats. 

Trailing 3-2, Corey Yawn singled to lead off the sixth and Julian Barcelo walked to move the tying run into scoring position. After a strikeout, Trent Jeffcoat singled to load the bases. 

Following a pitching change, Spencer Hanson drew a bases-loaded walk to score Yawn and tie the game. One batter later, Orlando Adams hit a sac-fly to center, scoring Barcelo with what proved to be the winning run. 

Tanner Martin started for Tallahassee and went out for the fifth but gave way to Jacob Estes after issuing a leadoff walk. Estes (1-0) pitched 2.2 scoreless innings to come away with the win. 

Leighton Alley recorded the final seven outs for the save. 

Tallahassee got on the board in its first at-bat when Adams' RBI-ground out scored Jeffcoat. The Eagles broke a 1-1 tie in the fourth on Bryson Kirksey's run-scoring single to plate Andrew Fernandez

Pasco-Hernando State, who finished third in the 2019 NJCAA DII World Series, took a 3-2 lead in the fifth against Martin, who allowed four hits and struck out three in four-plus innings. 

Jeffcoat and Yawn had two hits apiece for Tallahassee.

On Saturday, Tallahassee and Shelton State will play at doubleheader beginning with a 9-inning game at 1 p.m. A 7-inning contest will be play approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one.
