Eagles split with Shelton State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 8, 2020) – Tallahassee Community College's baseball team split Saturday's doubleheader with Shelton (Ala.) State Community College on day two of the TCC Diamond Classic.

Tallahassee won game one, 7-4, before dropping the nightcap in shutout fashion, 4-0. The Eagles are now 4-4 on the season.

In game one, Tallahassee trailed, 3-1, heading to the bottom of the fourth.

Andrew Fernandez led off the inning with a triple and Luke Ard was hit by a pitch to put the tying runs on. A double play scored Fernandez and halted the Eagles' momentum, but only momentarily.

Stan King's two-out single in the fifth scored Dilan Lawson and Orlando Adams to put Tallahassee in front, 4-3. Julian Barcelo singled home Fernandez and Ard in the sixth to increase the lead to 6-3.

Fernandez went 2-for-3 and scored twice.

The teams swapped runs in the seventh with Tallahassee scoring on Ard's single to center which plated Adams.

Zane Stephens (1-0) came on with two outs in the fourth and pitched 3.1 innings in relief to earn the win. Nolan Daniel recorded the final six outs for his first save.

In game two, Tallahassee managed just one hit and struck out 10 times in the Bucs' 4-0 victory.

Shelton State did all of its damage in the fourth inning, knocking out Eagle starter Matt Boynton (0-1) in the process.

Adams had Tallahassee's only hit.

The Eagles will travel to Florida State College at Jacksonville for a 4 p.m. first pitch on Monday.
