Eagles’ rally falls short at Chipola

MARIANNA, Fla. (March 12, 2020) – Tallahassee Community College's baseball team dropped an 8-7 decision at Chipola College on Thursday evening.

Tallahassee and Chipola split the two weekday games in Marianna, joining Pensacola State College and Northwest Florida State College at 1-1 in Panhandle Conference play as teams enter a two-week layoff mandated by the FCSAA due to the outbreak of COVID-19. Gulf Coast State College has yet to play at PC game.

Chipola jumped on Tallahassee starter Tanner Martin (0-1) for four runs in 1.2 innings and never trailed, though the Eagles battled back on a couple different occasions.

Trailing 5-1, Tallahassee scored three runs in the sixth to pull within a run.

With the bases loaded and one out, Dilan Lawson singled home Trent Jeffcoat for the first run of the inning. A bases-loaded walk to Julian Barcelo plated Spencer Hanson, and Cyrus Grimes' sac-fly scored Orlando Adams

Chipola got two of the runs back in the bottom half, doing all of its damage after two were out and nobody on.

After the teams traded runs in the eighth, Tallahassee faced an 8-5 deficit entering the ninth but had the tying run in scoring position after Spencer Hanson's one-out double scored Corey Yawn and Stan King. Hanson advanced to third on a wild pitch but a strikeout and ground out followed to end the game.

Hanson was 3-for-5.

In accordance with the Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA), Tallahassee Community College has suspended all athletic events, effective Friday, March 13 and continuing through Saturday, March 28, as a result of the continuing developments surrounding COVID-19.  For more information, including scheduling updates, visit TCCeagles.com.
