TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (February 2, 2021) – Tallahassee Community College's baseball team ran its winning streak to three games with a doubleheader sweep of Edward Waters College's JV squad on Tuesday evening at Eagle Field.
The Eagles won game one, 8-2, then delivered a 16-0, six-inning blowout victory in the nightcap.
The Eagles are now 3-2 on the young season.
In game two, Tallahassee was one out away from a combined no-hitter when Daiton Pass singled up the middle off Stan King.
King pitched the sixth, following starter Patrick Libby, who pitched three innings, and relievers Aidan Keenan, who tossed a scoreless fourth and fifth, respectively.
Libby (1-0) retired the first eight batters he faced before issuing a two-out walk in the third, the Tigers' lone base runner prior to Pass' sixth-inning single. Libby, who was predetermined to start and pitch three innings, was awarded the victory.
He got all the run support he would need with a five-run first, in which the Eagles batted around. With two runs already on the board, Nick Vera's sac-fly scored Jeissy De La Cruz to put the Eagles in front, 3-0. A wild pitch plated Dilan Lawson and Nick Niewulis' single scored Andrew Fernandez to complete the first-inning rally.
Tallahassee sent 11 batters to the plate in the second, tacking on six more runs.
Lawson's bases-loaded single scored Spencer Hanson to begin the scoring. Fernandez added a two-run single and later scored on a wild pitch, and Vera doubled home Lawson before eventually scoring on Bryson Kirksey's ground out.
Following a scoreless third and fourth, the Eagles exploded for five more runs in the fifth.
Fernandez led the Eagles' 14-hit attack, going 3-for-3 with four RBI. Lawson, Vera, Niewulis, Kirksey and Brendan Power had two hits each. Hanson didn't record an official at-bat but reached base five times – he drew three walks and was hit by a pitch twice.
In game one, Tallahassee erased a 2-0 deficit with a three-run fourth.
Lawson's two-run single tied the game and, two batters later, he scored the go-ahead run when Trey Bacon's squeeze bunt was executed to perfection.
Lawson added another two-run single as part of a four-run fifth. He finished 2-for-3 with four RBI. Bacon was 2-for-3 with three RBI.
Dylan Faulkner (1-0) pitched 2.2 innings in relief to earn the victory.
Tallahassee has added a home doubleheader against Wallace (Ala.) Community College-Dothan on Thursday. Game one will begin at 2 p.m.
