TCC drops PC opener at Chipola

MARIANNA, Fla. (March 9, 2021) – In a low-scoring affair, Chipola College scored a 3-1 win over Tallahassee Community College in Tuesday's Panhandle Conference baseball opener.

Chipola scored a run in its first at-bat and added two more in the fourth against Tallahassee starter Dilan Lawson (0-5), who allowed only three hits but walked seven in 3.1 innings.

That was all the run support needed for Andrew Baker, who started and went six innings for Chipola, and Cedric De Grandpre, who pitched three scoreless to notch the save.

Down 3-0, the Eagles brought the tying run to the plate in the sixth against Baker.

Spencer Hanson drew a leadoff walk, moved into scoring position on a wild pitch and advanced to third on Lawson's RBI-double to right. Baker recovered, however, to retire Trey Bacon on a groundout to short and a strikeout of Brendan Power to end the threat.

Both teams managed just five hits for the game. Hanson and Lawson had two hits apiece for Tallahassee.

Dylan Faulkner, who came on for Lawson with two outs in the fourth, and Tanner Martin, held the Indians scoreless and limited them to just two hits over the final 4.2 innings.

The same two teams will continue their series at 6 p.m. Thursday in Marianna.
