Pirates take series opener against TCC
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (April 19, 2021) – Thanks to a pair of a weekend rainouts, the final week of the 2021 baseball season will be a marathon for Tallahassee Community College.
The Eagles opened a closing stretch of six games in six days on Monday and dropped a 6-1 decision to Pensacola State College.
Pensacola State's Patrick Halligan went the distance, striking out 12 and allowing only one walk to earn the win. A third-inning run turned out to be all the offense Tallahassee would generate.
With two outs and nobody on, Bryson Kirksey tripled to deep right-center. He scored on Trent Jeffcoat's opposite-field single to left to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.
Jeffcoat had two of the Eagles' six hits off Halligan. He was 2-for-4 with a stolen base.
After three scoreless innings, Tallahassee starter Patrick Libby (3-3) ran into trouble in the fourth. A defensive error sandwiched between two walks loaded the bases with just one out, and ended Libby's afternoon. An RBI-groundout tied the game then Bayron Acevedo's two-out single scored a pair of runs to put the Pirates in front, 3-1.
Darrien McDowell's two-run homer in the seven extended Pensacola State's lead to 5-1, and the Pirates added an insurance run in the eighth.
Tallahassee and Pensacola State will meet for the final time on Wednesday with a 6 p.m. first pitch in Pensacola.
The Eagles will make up its games against Gulf Coast State College at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Panama City, Fla., and at 5 p.m. Thursday at Eagle Field.
