Tallahassee sweeps season series, beats Sante Fe 9-7

TALLAHASSEE, FL (February 16th, 2022) – The Eagles moved to 8-3 on the season with another come-from-behind victory over the Santa Fe Saints on Wednesday afternoon.

This was the second game between Tallahassee and Santa Fe, with the Eagles winning the first matchup 12-10 in Gainesville on February 2nd.

Brett Gwinn (Fr., RHP/1B) got the start for the Eagles on the mound, and pitched four scoreless innings, allowing three hits, and striking out three.

Santa Fe took a 3-0 lead in the sixth. The Eagles came storming back in the bottom half of the inning, scoring three runs and tying the game.

Santa Fe retook the lead in the top of the seventh, adding two more runs. The Eagles came back with six runs of their own, taking their first lead of the afternoon.

The Eagles tallied up six extra-base hits, including three triples. Justen Crews (Fr., INF) hit his first two three-baggers of the season, and Jayson Zmejksoski (Soph., INF) recorded his first. Josh Pigozzo (Soph., OF) also stole two bases bringing his season total to a team-high eight.

"I felt like today, early, we were just hacking. We really didn't have an approach at the plate," said Head Coach Mike McLeod when asked about how his team was able to come back today. "You have to have an approach. That's what we do, we start talking about the approach and trying to figure out a way we can get the guy off the mound."

With Santa Fe threatening to come back, Drew Lang (Soph., RHP) came in with two outs in the ninth, striking out the last batter and recording his third save. Campbell Cleveland pitched one scoreless inning in relief and moved his record to 3-1 after earning the win.

Tallahassee hosts State College of Florida Manatee-Sarasota this weekend for two games. First pitch for Friday's game is at 5:00 PM, while game two is scheduled for Saturday at 2:00 PM. The first game of the series will be broadcast live on TCCEagles.com and YouTube.com/TCCEagles.
