Eagles score 14 in rout of State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota

TALLAHASSEE, FL (February 18th, 2022) – A 10-run third inning gave the Eagles enough of a lead to take a 1-0 series lead against the State College of Florida Manatee-Sarasota. The night began with Wayne Edwards throwing out the ceremonial first pitch.

On January 25th, Tallahassee Community College unveiled the Wayne and Betty Edwards Family Baseball Field House. The facility was named in honor of the couple, who have been involved in TCC Athletics for many years and donated to Raising Our Game: TCC's Campaign for Athletics.

"I can tell the energy that our players have every day. It's a different level than it used to be," said Head Coach Mike McLeod on the new field house. "They love going in that field house and spending time there, working hard but also having fun."

Tallahassee took a 3-0 lead in the third, recording three hits and sending nine batters to the plate. After SCF got one back in the fourth, the Eagles bounced back with a 10-run inning, sending 14 men to the plate, recording five hits, and drawing six walks. In the inning, eight of the nine places in the lineup recorded at least one run.

Ethan Krizen (Soph., C) went 2-3 on the night and drew two walks, scoring three times in the victory. Caleb Abshier (Soph., INF/OF) had two hits for extra bases, including his first triple of the season.

Ethan Firoved (Fr., LHP) put together his longest outing of the season, going six innings, allowing just one run on three hits, walking three, and striking out nine.

"I try to keep pounding the zone and getting ahead of hitters," said Firoved, when asked what he does to stay focused when his team gives him a big lead. "I just try to get quick outs to get my hitters back in the dugout."

Michael Dudley (Soph., RHP), Braden Halladay (Soph., RHP), and Harper McLendon (Fr., RHP) combined for three innings of relief work, allowing just one unearned run.

With the win, Tallahassee moves to 9-3 in the season and carry a three-game winning streak into Saturday's series finale against State College of Florida, Manatee Sarasota. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00, but the game will not be live-streamed. Live coverage of TCC Baseball will resume on Monday, February 20th when they take on Thomas University JV in a Presidents' Day doubleheader.
